The Santa Monica Pier is quite the entertainment star, you might not know it but it’s been featured in countless movies and TV shows such as Iron Man and 24, and so many more. You can also visit a very similar location in the video game Grand Theft Auto V and ride a roller coaster very similar to West Coaster. Since I missed the opportunity last year to visit the pier I had to visit it when I returned to LA this year. So let’s check out this iconic place and Pacific Park which resides on the pier!
Santa Monica Pier!
Walking onto to the pier.
Reached the end of Route 66.
I told you it’s famous. 😛
And here’s the entrance to Pacific Park!
Had to stop here to redeem my voucher for an unlimited wristband and food voucher.
The very small area that Pacific Park takes up on the pier is packed with rides. Very cool how they fit so much in such a tight space.
My ticket had a voucher for food and I was quite hungry so I got some Pizza Hut express. Wasn’t too fresh but it did the job.
I ate my Pizza Hut out on the pier by the ocean, so after eating it was time to re-enter the park! With it being a pay per ride or wristband park you can freely walk in and out of the park at will. Pretty awesome way to spend an afternoon, and you can’t beat the views.
Let’s not forget what we came here for though, new credit!
Doesn’t appear to have too much of a line. 😛
How about we climb the lift?
The ride does a helix before plunging into air time filled drops.
The bunny hops provide a surprising amount of hair time. 😛
Soon after the bunny hops, the ride enters the final helix.
You start out at the top….
… and end up at the bottom. You get quite an impressive amount of speed here.
And before you know it you’re back at the station, but don’t worry your ride doesn’t end here. As long as there’s not a line the ride ops will ask if you want to go around again. Well heck yes!
West Coaster doesn’t look like much, but it’s quite the fun ride and the setting and views make this one not to miss. Plus it’s become such an iconic ride being featured in movies and TV shows you can’t pass it up!
Take a ride on the Ferris wheel?
The sun shines bright here in Southern California.
The far end of the pier with additional restaurants.
Like I said you can’t beat these views.
A look back at West Coaster and downtown Santa Monica.
Oh we got a train climbing the lift!
It’s a little bit of a slow start….
..but here we go!
Just look at that crazy hair time!
The train entering the final helix.
And the train arrives back for the next group.
A look at the other side of the beach, I will say the Pacific Ocean is quite the sight.
There’s some kind of trampoline activity going on today as well.
After the wheel I decided to grab a ride on Pacific Plunge. Not the tallest drop tower but again can’t beat the views.
So after getting a few rides in, I decided to take a walk around and check out the rest of the park and pier. Then I’d return to take a few more spins on West Coaster before leaving.
The American and Californian flags are on display at the top of West Coaster’s lift.
The coaster runs right over the midway, and it’s a great sight to see and hear people screaming by. Definitely classic amusement park feel.
The bathrooms here are some of the nicest and cleanest bathroom’s you will find outside of Disney. It’s super nice!
As I mentioned Pacific Park sure has that classic amusement park feel, and that wouldn’t be complete without midway games.
The bumper cars here seem quite unique but since I was by myself and wouldn’t have anyone to bump into I decided to pass on these.
Looking back down the pier.
Pacific Park from the end of the pier.
A little farther away shot.
Another look at the ocean and beach
There is no smoking on the pier!
More midway games.
The kids area has quite a few rides such as this pirate ship…..
…these little trucks…
… and these boats and a few others!
Sums up the Pacific Park experience, I’ll definitely be back!
The Santa Monica Pier and Pacific Park is a can’t be missed experience. It’s a great way to spend an afternoon, you can go for a ride on a roller coaster and then go take a dip in the ocean. Can’t think of too many better ways to spend an afternoon!
Next up lot’s of whales and some roller coasters too. 😉
