After all the Christmas fun at Dollywood it was time for some more holiday fun from our local parks. ACE Ohio had a holiday party lined up with awesome room rates for the night before at Kalahari, so we decided to stay and check out the water park as well as attend the holiday party. Come check it out!
Just like Dollywood, Kalahari had it’s fair share of Christmas lights.
The bridge over the pond to the entrance of the resort.
Inside the lobby there’s an elephant to greet everyone as they enter.
Our room had this lovely silverback gorilla picture hanging on the wall.
Pretty good size TV though.
Our view from our window. While we don’t get to see any of nature, we get to look right into the wave pool!
The next morning we went to load up the car before heading to the party. There’s this sign letting everyone know where the name Kalahari comes from.
The entrance to the resort sure does look pretty.
The resort is huge and that’s some of the deluxe rooms there with balconies.
Inside they had a baby Bengal Tiger on display.
It’s almost time for the party.
Schedule of events, also notice the Cleveland Metroparks took the opportunity to advertise the toboggan chutes.
Let’s get things started.
First up was Waldameer talking about their wave pool expansion. Waldameer was awesome with sharing all their desired plans for the future. No secrets from them, they spilled everything they knew.
Want a discount on Waldameer tickets, well here you go. 😛
Next up was the National Roller Coaster Musuem to share with us some recent acquisitions, from a certain park right down the road.
Next it was time to enter our tickets for the door prizes we both put tickets in for the Geauga Lake book, wonder if we’ll win?
Next up we played some Family Feud ACE style.
Finally Cedar Point was up! First though they went through small updates throughout the Cedar Fair chain, starting with the success of Banshee at Kings Island this past year.
First up for new this year is Voyage to Iron Reef at Knott’s Berry Farm.
I’m sure no one has heard of this ride…. 😛
This will be my view in just a few days!
Finally to the Cedar Point info. Winter Chill Out date was announced.
CoasterMania details revealed.
The refreshed Hotel Breakers was also shown.
It’s gonna look amazing when it’s all done.
Rougarou will be ready for opening day and everything will be new on it besides the track itself.
So did we win anything? Well you tell me. 😛
Our winnings included a Blue Streak 50th Anniversary sign, the 50/50 raffle, Cedar Point gloves, the Geauga Lake book, and a Millennium Force magnet. Awesome! The holiday party was a lot of fun, now let’s go check out the water park!
The lobby area of Kalahari.
There’s coffee and candy smells as you walk past the lobby to entice you to spend some more money.
The entrance of the water park.
The Zip Coaster which is a lot of fun.
A pool with basketball hoops for the kids.
More Zip Coaster action.
Most of the slides go outside of the building and then come back inside to finish.
Here’s a look at the Zip Coaster in action. It’s a little short but it provides some great air time moments. Just watch out for that sudden stop at the end.
The lazy river runs the perimeter of the building. There’s also a few African animals along the walls.
The lazy river is fun and there’s enough to make any lazy river fan happy.
Kalahari’s giant wall of rules. 😛
Got a peek inside the aquatics office and saw this on the wall. Our wrist band was lavender so wonder if we can always come back? haha
They even have a Flow Rider.
The wave pool is also a pretty good size.
The stars of Kalahari are these two slides however.
After a few drops you enter into a bowl….
This slide is called Swahili Swirl and it’s a ProSlide bowl slide. It’s a heck of a lot of fun!
Next to Swahili Swirl is Rippling Rhino and it’s a good old fashioned family tube slide, no bowls but still a lot of fun!
Exit of the Swahili Swirl and Rippling Rhino.
This leads into…
The Tanzanian Twister and it’s the real star of the park. It’s definitely one of the most thrilling water slide attractions out there. This is the original toilet bowl slide, not to be confused with a ProSlide Tornado.
Prepare to get flushed.
Hmm what are these?
Mat racers of course!
Another angle of the wave pool from the top of the mat racing deck.
Kalahari also has plenty of areas to relax and a unique roof system that allows you to get a suntan year round. Tell me about it, didn’t know that and went home with a slight sunburn.
However the real way to relax is at the swim up bar.
And you can also swim outside in the heated pools, even when it’s December and freezing out there! As long as you stay in the water you’ll stay warm.
Above the water park is a fancy restaurant which looks into the water park. We did not eat there as we didn’t bring any dress clothes. Plus it’s pretty expensive I’ve heard.
Kalahari was a lot of fun! ACE arranged a great rate of $149 which included water park passes for two people. The holiday party was also a success with learning of important dates for the upcoming season at Cedar Point and plus all the goodies we won! Hopefully ACE Ohio has their holiday party here again next year!
